Australia PR

Obtaining Permanent Residency (PR) in Australia involves a points-based immigration system managed through the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program. The most common pathway for skilled professionals is the Skilled Migration visa category, particularly the Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa) and Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated Visa). Here is a general flow of the Australia PR process:

  1. Occupation Assessment:
    • Determine your eligibility by having your occupation assessed by the relevant assessing authority in Australia. Each occupation is linked to a specific assessing authority, and they determine if your qualifications and work experience meet the Australian standards.
  2. English Language Proficiency:
    • Take an English language proficiency test, such as IELTS, and achieve the required scores. English language proficiency is a crucial factor in the points-based system.
  3. Skills Assessment:
    • Obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation. This involves demonstrating that your qualifications and work experience align with the Australian standards for your profession.
  4. Expression of Interest (EOI):
    • Submit an Expression of Interest through the online SkillSelect system. Provide details about your skills, qualifications, work experience, and other relevant information. Based on the information provided, you will be assigned a points score.
  5. Points Test and Invitation:
    • Your EOI is ranked based on the points test. The points are awarded for factors such as age, English proficiency, work experience, qualifications, and others. Invitations are issued periodically to candidates with the highest points.
  6. State Nomination (if applicable):
    • If you are applying for a Subclass 190 visa, you may need to be nominated by a specific Australian state or territory. Each state has its own criteria for nomination.
  7. Submit PR Application:
    • After receiving an invitation, you can submit your PR application online. Provide supporting documents, including educational certificates, skills assessment, English language test results, and other relevant information.
  8. Health and Character Checks:
    • Undergo a health examination and provide evidence of good character by obtaining police clearance certificates from each country you have lived in for a certain period.
  9. Visa Grant:
    • If your application is successful, you will receive a visa grant notification. This will include details about your visa subclass, conditions, and the date when you can first enter Australia.
  10. Travel to Australia and Initial PR Status:
    • Travel to Australia before the initial entry date specified in your visa grant notification. Upon arrival, you will be granted a Permanent Resident Visa, and you can start your new life in Australia.
