Canada PR

The process for obtaining Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada is generally structured through the Express Entry system. The Express Entry system is a points-based immigration system that manages applications for certain economic immigration programs. Here’s a general flow of the Canada PR process:

  1. Eligibility Assessment:
    • Determine your eligibility for one of the economic immigration programs managed through Express Entry. The main programs include the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
  2. Language Proficiency Test:
    • Take an approved language proficiency test, such as IELTS (English) or CELPIP, to demonstrate your language skills. French language proficiency (TEF) may also be considered for additional points.
  3. Educational Credential Assessment (ECA):
    • Get your foreign education credentials assessed by an approved authority to ensure they are equivalent to Canadian standards. This is required for the FSWP and certain other programs.
  4. Create an Express Entry Profile:
    • Create an online Express Entry profile with the necessary information, including your language test results, ECA report, work experience, and other details.
  5. Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score:
    • Obtain a CRS score based on factors like age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other additional factors. Candidates are ranked against each other in the Express Entry pool.
  6. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA):
    • Candidates with the highest CRS scores are invited to apply for permanent residence during regular draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). An ITA is typically issued to a specified number of candidates in each draw.
  7. Submit PR Application:
    • Once you receive an ITA, you have a limited time to submit a complete PR application online. You will need to provide supporting documents, such as police certificates, medical exams, proof of funds, and other required information.
  8. Processing Time:
    • The processing time for a PR application varies. IRCC aims to process most applications within six months.
  9. Permanent Residency Status:
    • If your application is approved, you will receive your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a permanent resident visa (if applicable). This allows you to travel to Canada and become a permanent resident.
  10. Landing in Canada:
    • After receiving your PR approval, you must travel to Canada before the expiry date on your visa. Upon arrival, you will be given your PR card, which is your official proof of permanent residence.
